#hypebaekicks Review: 'One Piece' x Skechers D'Lites 2 "Red"
Take a closer look at the dad sneaker.
In the latest installment of our “#hypebaekicks Review” series, I tried out the popular dad-inspired modern sneaker trend. Earlier this year, Skechers Korea teamed up with manga series One Piece on a collaborative footwear collection. Each of the most popular characters inspired a different colorway. I was lucky enough to grab the red, white and blue iteration dedicated to Luffy even though they are sold out on Skecher’s web store.
Keep reading below to find out why I highly recommend purchasing the colorful kicks.
THE SHOE: One Piece x Skechers D’Lites 2 Sweet Monster “Red”
OUR REVIEW: I must admit that I honestly never thought that Skechers would be back in style. Despite this notion, I’m always open to trying out a trend. Firstly, this design is pretty simplistic in my opinion, but I definitely think it works for those who typically stick to monochromatic colors for the summer months. I wasn’t completely sold on the minimalist appearance but upon actually seeing them in person, I pretty much changed my mind.
The majority of the silhouette appears in a crisp white. Surrounding the sneakers is trubuck leather and a color-blocked upper with a lace-up design. Additional design standouts are the padded tongue and sleek tan trim throughout. On the side is the brand’s recognizable “S” logo in red and white. I like how the trainers pay homage to Luffy by exemplifying the colors he is known for wearing, which include red, blue and tan since he’s typically wearing a red shirt and a straw hat.
In the realm of comfort, which is a particularly significant cue to me, I’d say the Skechers are moderately comfortable. I hope that after a few more times of wearing them, the Air Cooled Memory Foam on the insole and the shock-absorbing midsole begin providing some type of levelness. For now, I think that the D’Lites 2 model takes a bit of breaking in before they are actually comfy. I do however feel that the inner padding and rubber sole are agreeable and didn’t provide any discomfort.
VERDICT: COP
BUY: Head over to Urban Outfitters to shop the One Piece x Skechers D’Lites 2 Sweet Monster collaboration in “Red” where they retail for $80 USD.
