It has only been a day since the tragic news of fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld‘s passing broke. His death brought the whole fashion industry to a halt, as he was reported dead mid-day on February 20, 2019, and the shocking news left a big hole in the community.

Since his passing yesterday, many celebrities, models and industry insiders have shared their experiences with the Chanel and Fendi designer, highlighting his importance in their lives. Naomi Campbell shared a touching paragraph detailing her first encounter with Lagerfeld, thanking him for taking a chance on “the 16 year old girl from South London” and “opening” her eyes. Off-White™ founder and Louis Vuitton‘s menswear director Virgil Abloh thanked the designer with an image of Lagerfeld posing with rapper Nigo alongside the caption, “this image alone was enough to make my generation dream…”

Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour also shared her sorrow following his passing, saying:

“Today the world lost a giant among men. Karl was so much more than our greatest and most prolific designer—his creative genius was breathtaking and to be his friend was an exceptional gift. Karl was brilliant, he was wicked, he was funny, he was generous beyond measure, and he was deeply kind. I will miss him so very much.”

There’s no doubt that Karl Lagerfeld has paved the way for contemporary fashion today, and it goes without saying that the iconic designer has influenced so many creatives across all industries through his inspiring vision and class.
