This Graphic Nail Art Was Inspired by the Women's World Cup Kits

NAF! Salon shows us how to reinterpret those iconic jerseys at home.

By now we’re sure most of you, like us, have fully caught the Women’s World Cup fever. As the tournament gears up for the quarter final stages, the excitement is unparalleled and all eyes are on the remaining eight teams. If your home nation is still in with a chance to take home the trophy, or you’re pledging allegiance to your flag regardless, an easy and fun way to incorporate your team colors into your look is through some stellar nail art.

This year, the Women’s World Cup jerseys were almost as talked about as the competition itself, with the emphasis on the uniquely stylish finishes adopted by each country. Between France’s polka-dot tops, the ’90s graffiti-inspired design of Australia’s jersey and Scotland’s sleek baby pink away kit, there’s plenty of inspiration to transform into a unique nail art look. We teamed up with Glasgow’s NAF! Salon to see how their team have reinterpreted some of the standout kits. Take a look below try some of the designs out for yourself.

Australia

The Aussie kit comes in a distinctive, retro yellow and green hue – the perfect colors for some statement nails. It can be easy to go over the top with such vibrant tones, but NAF!’s Olivia kept subtle details in mind for this design for her native Australia. Painterly brushstrokes were key here, as forest green, sunshine yellow and neon yellow were blending together for an artsy statement nail, complemented by block colors on the remaining nails and a green Swoosh detail to complete the look. Try Sally Hansen’s “Jealous Boyfriend,” Floss Gloss’ “Hella Hilite” and OPI’s “Pump up the Volume” to recreate this ’90s look at home.

France

The World Cup is taking place in France this year and fittingly, the home nation had one of the most talked-about kits. NAF!’s Grace took that pattern as a literal base for her nail design, with classic white nails acting as the perfect backdrop for navy polka dots. Slick blue and red stripes found their way into the look, inspired by the French flag and elevating the design is a Nike Swoosh in metallic bronze that extends across the middle and ring finger nails. Try it out for yourself with a nail dotting tool, Christian Louboutin Beauté polishes in “Baraboum,” “Jazzy Doll,” and “Zoulou” and essie’s “1 Blanc.”

China

Red was always going to be the main choice for the Chinese team-inspired nails and NAF!’s Sharon didn’t hold back, painting all five stiletto nails in the bold hue. The thumb is transformed into the Chinese flag with the addition of yellow stars while graphic details in black break up the bright coloring. Notably, there’s a phoenix silhouette painted on with great care – a reference to the phoenix emblems on the kit that signify femininity, virtue and inner pride. You’ll need Christian Louboutin Beauté’s polish in “Edgypopi,” and “Khol” as well as Nails Inc.’s “Living Your Best Life” to perfect this design.

Scotland

Although Scotland were unfortunately knocked out of the tournament following their draw with Argentina, the baby pink kit and the team’s Tartan Army heritage is perfect inspo for nails you can rock throughout the year. NAF!’s Abby used a pastel pink base, offset with subtle strokes in a bolder pink hue for nails that are feminine without being too girly. Black detailing offsets the look, in the form of adidas’ Three Stripes on one nail and in interpretations of classic Scottish plaid on others. Pick up Dior’s “Tra-La-La,” Tom Ford Beauty’s “Pink Crush” and Chanel’s Le Vernis in “Gris Obscure” to polish off this style.
