Awkwafina and Sandra Oh to Co-Star As Estranged Sisters in Comedy Film
The movie has established a new home at 20th Century Studios instead of Netflix.
Awkwafina and Sandra Oh are co-starring in a new untitled comedy film as sisters. Although the comedy had a home at Netflix last year, the movie is currently the property of 20th Century Studios, which belongs to Disney.
The storyline is as follows: Awkwafina, the main protagonist in the movie, is a recluse who has an obsession with Jeopardy. Oh plays her train wreck of a sister, and they reunite in an attempt to pay off their mother’s gambling debts. They subsequently set off on a journey across the country in hopes of taking home the game show’s prize money.
Awkwafina is most notably known for her roles in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Farewell, the latter in which she went on to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress. Oh is famous for Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve, and is the first of few Asian women to win Best Actress in a TV drama since 1981. Jessica Yu will be directing the movie with Jen D’Angelo as the scriptwriter. Meanwhile, Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell are in charge of producing the film.
