'Hannibal Rising' Actor Gaspard Ulliel Dead at Age 37
After a skiing accident.
French actor Gaspard Ulliel has died at age 37 after a skiing accident. Known for his piercing gaze, the actor most famously starred as the cannibalistic villain Hannibal Lecter in the 2007 film, Hannibal Rising.
The award-winning actor rose to fame after playing French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in the biopic Saint Laurent. Ulliel intended on joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was set to be featured in the Marvel Disney+ series Moon Knight, which is scheduled for release in March 2022.
Many in France took to social media in an outpouring of grief and remembrance. French Prime Minister Jean Castex wrote on Twitter, “Gaspard Ulliel grew up with cinema and cinema grew up with him. They loved each other madly.”
The French Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot recognized Ulliel as “an exceptional actor,” sharing her condolences with his loved ones. “Today, the world of cinema lost a huge talent.”
