What You Need To Know About the "Brozilian" Wax Experience

Our beauty editor shares the skinny on the quiet “Bro” trend.

It’s that time of the year when women partake in an all-year-round below-the-waistline upkeep favorite: Brazilian waxing. However, guys have been embracing those salon services once thought of as only for women in recent years. Perhaps it’s not a big shock that we’d follow the example set by the female gender and make the jump to the “Brozilian” wax experience.

Coined by BriskNPosh, a beauty salon in New York City, the term was born out of Founder Natalia Romanenko’s overall mission to create an inclusive and diverse community, changing the public’s viewpoint on hair removal. From my first time at BriskNPosh, I immediately felt safe and comfortable, allowing the somewhat painful personal area hair removal experience to be less daunting.

Keep reading all the pro tips to help you prepare for receiving a Brozilian wax treatment.

Preparing for a Brozilian Wax

Make sure you thoroughly clean your nether regions. You don’t want to lie on the waxing table and have any unnecessary surprises. If you normally shave or use hair removal creams, you’d need to wait until the hairs have regrown. This is recommended to ensure that there is hair that can be pulled from the root for a smooth and bumpless finish. After a thorough shower, do not apply any oils, lotions or creams to the areas being waxed, as it will impede the effectiveness of the treatment. Lastly, if you’re sensitive to pain, it’s best to pop an ibuprofen to quickly circumvent any uncomfortable feelings.

What to Expect During a Brozilian

Keep in mind that the Brozilian encompasses the front and back of your most vulnerable and sensitive areas, but you needn’t be shy as you will have booked with a trained clinical advisor.

When I arrived for my appointment, I was advised to undress and lay flat on my back on the treatment table. For the front of my lower areas, as I had a large amount of hairs, the esthetician took a shaving razor to trim the hairs down to a waxable size. For this part of the process, I laid with my legs wrapped in a physical four shape as instructed by my waxer, as this is the best for the application of the strips and the hair removal. For the penile, perineum and inner lower areas, a numbing gel was applied after each strip was pulled, which in itself cut down on the pain tremendously. The wax itself felt warm and pleasant upon contact, and the pain was minimal and short-lived.

After the front side was done, I was instructed to turn over and spread eagle. My esthetician quickly applied the wax down the middle of my backside, and within three quick strips, the process was finally over.

Post Care

Aftercare is minimal and to the point. I was advised to keep the skin dry and cool as best as possible for the first 24 hours. My waxer was adamant about not taking any hot showers before the 24 hours were over, or you could risk irritation or infections as the pores are open to bacteria during this time.

After my first time having a Brozilian, I knew it was something I would do again as I enjoyed the overall appearance and extra boost of confidence I gained from the experience. I’ve always celebrated hair in a body-positive way for myself and others but having this treatment was rejuvenating and was a nice change from my usual look. If you’re looking to give the Brozilian a try, I’d 10 out of 10 recommend it.
