Trompe L'oeil Reigns Supreme in Y/Project and Jean Paul Gaultier's Second Collab
The exploration of illusion continues.
Just a year after Glenn Martens was appointed as Jean Paul Gaultier’s single-season creative director, his brand Y/Project and JPG return for a second collaboration, continuing the brands’ fascination with “Trompe l’oeil” designs.
This time, however, the collaboration echoes Martens’ distinctive exploration of the illusion of garments, playing with proportions, printing and placement. 2D-printed knitwear is placed atop mesh dresses and tank tops, while maxi and mini skirts are further texturized by the addition of printed hot pants. Elsewhere, cut-outs, dyeing techniques and layering add to core Jean Paul Gaultier silhouettes, further elevated by mesh fabrics and two-toned colorways.
An evolution of the duo’s first partnership, the new collection aims to truly maximize the concept of illusion, taking it one step further for the new season. The collection is accompanied by a vibrant campaign, lensed by Thomas Cristiani and starring Gia Bab, with creative direction courtesy of Florence Tétier.

In other collaboration news, adidas and Gucci have released a selection of FW23 footwear.
