2023 Met Gala: Here are All of the References to Choupette

Celebrating the designer’s feline friend.

The most highly-anticipated fashion event of the year has come and gone, but we’re still recovering from the 2023 Met Gala looks.

Paying tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, several celebrities chose to extend a paw to the late designer’s beloved feline friend, Choupette. The white Birman with stunning blue eyes did not attend the event herself, but attendees from Doja Cat to Emma Chamberlain invoked her presence. The Grammy award-winning musician opted for a realistic take, wearing facial prosthetics to help her mimic the furry companion, while her dress was covered in thousands of beads and finished with a feathery train. The rapper and singer reportedly went for a meta approach, only responding to interview questions with purrs. Assignment understood.

Elsewhere, fellow musician Lil Nas X adorned is silhouette with 5,000 stones and 218,784 Swarovski crystals, which took over ten hours to apply. The Georgia native accessorized with a crystal-encrusted mask, complete with shimmering crystals. Meanwhile, Janelle Monaé celebrated a full circle moment as the first Met Gala they attended was by Karl Lagerfeld’s side in 2011. The artist went for a black and white tweed Thom Browne tuxedo suit layered over a sheer black tulle pannier dress with a sequin bikini underneath. Her accessory nodded to Choupette, offering a white leather quilted cat bag. Chamberlain left the theatrics behind and used the cat’s crystal clear blue eyes as inspiration wearing a monochromatic suit

Take a look at the best references to Choupette during the 2023 Met Gala in the gallery above.
