Photography Series "We're All Mad Here" Tells the Complex Story of Self-Discovery

Created by Hana Zebzabi and Alice Riley.

Curated and produced by Alice Riley, “We’re All Mad Here” is a new photography series that aims to explore “the confusing world of adults” through an exploration of self-discovery and identity.

Lensed by photographer Hana Zebzabi, the series stemmed from the complex question of “Who are you?” asked by the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. Offering a visual interpretation of our response, one that’s constantly changing as we evolve and grow, the series depicts a number of different characters embodied by a child, based solely on her imagination.

Speaking about the process behind the series, Riley explains, “Hana [Zebzabi] and I have been working together to develop a world that our audience can immerse themselves in. Although we’ve collaborated many times before, we decided to join forces on a creative vision and execute a series that surpasses anything we’ve done together thus far.”

She continues, “I initially came up with the idea of exploring different characters that make up a committee in my mind, and Hana immediately expressed interest in shooting this with me, bringing her iconic photography style and direction to the project. We sat together and worked through each character with deep intention and thought, and came up with these five characters/egos. We wanted people to find a part of themselves in each character by giving each ego a narrative, a world and a story. We’ve launched the project on a website that allows viewers to journey through each character via short videos and beautiful cinematic images.”
