New Study Finds That Opposites *Don't* Attract...
A new study proves the age-old-theory is a myth.
In a study of 80,000 UK-based participants, researchers set out to find the cold hard truth about love, dating and attraction.
Conducted at the University of Colorado, Boulder, the new study dissected all aspects of the human experience from the first time participants had sex to political beliefs. Former research on the topic has only ever researched one aspect at a time, never multiple, leading researchers to believe that they were on to something. And boy were they.
According to the results, “opposites attract,” is a myth that’s led us quite astray. As The Guardian wrote, “between 82% and 89% of traits examined were similar among partners, with only 3% ranking as substantially different.”
Essentially, instead of “opposites attract,” the saying should read “Birds of a feather are indeed more likely to flock together,” lead researcher Tanya Horwitz stated in a press release. ”Even in situations where we feel like we have a choice about our relationships, there may be mechanisms happening behind the scenes of which we aren’t fully aware.”
And just like that, dating just became even harder.
