We’ve all experienced dating app fatigue. But did you know that 43% of ADHD daters forget to respond to matches? Ironically, nearly a third (32%) feel misunderstood when their slow responses are misinterpreted as disinterest. Why? Because for ADHDers, dating looks different.
If you haven’t been diagnosed by TikTok, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopment disorder that affects attention, impulse control and executive functioning. According to a landmark study conducted by Hinge’s team of PhD researchers, people with ADHD are 22% more likely to be overwhelmed by dating apps. Others constantly feel misunderstood.

1. Conversation feels boring and repetitive: Boring or understimulating conversation can lead to forgetfulness. Take a look at your potentials profile and find common ground to bond over/discuss.
2. Forgetting to respond to matches: Many people with ADHD keep their phone on “Do Not Disturb” or off to avoid overstimulation. This can lead to forgetting to respond. Make sure you’re upfront about your phone use and habits early on, Hinge team reports. “This will help you set expectations and avoid crossed wires.” Also, set reminders and be intentional about scheduling phone calls and FaceTime dates.
3. Navigating small talk: ADHDers are 38% more likely to say they hate small talk. However, “deeper discussion doesn’t always mean super heavy or personal topics. For many people with ADHD, they are waiting until the moment they can dive into their favorite topic. So if you have a hyper fixation or special interest, this is your time to shine and dive in!
