The Girls Can’t Get Enough of Karma From 'Love Is Blind: Habibi'
After rejecting a proposal and choosing herself, Karma wins over women in the U.S.
In the first season of Netflix‘s Love Is Blind: Habibi, cast member Karma Ben Messaoud is the first to receive a proposal. And what she does with it is beyond iconic.
“I’m looking for a life partner who loves people, embraces life and appreciates everything,” the Dubai-based cast member said in her initial interview. With a passion for dance and business, Messaoud made her intentions clear.
When she met Ammar in the pods, the pair hit it off, bonding over music and more. But Ammar quickly ruined his chances after — attempting to — forbid Karma from dancing. “When I tell you I don’t like something you’re supposed to say ‘Okay,’” he told her. To his surprise, she soon ended the engagement.
“I decided, we shouldn’t be together. Because I choose to dance, choose art and I choose my life honestly,” she said. “As a woman and as a human being, God created me to be free. Because if you can live in your truth and love your soul, love will be everywhere.”
I’m obsessed with Karma on love is blind, habibi
She is the epitome of what the new generation of Arab women are. Pick and love yourself first and NEVER minimize yourself for a man and marriage. I don’t know her but I am so proud of her.

“So you sacrificed our relationship for dancing?” he responded. To which she reminded him that her dancing was a dealbreaker, so she didn’t end it. She was merely respecting his desires for a long-term partner. Ammar found the moment appropriate to tell Karma his “honest opinion.” “Your life will be difficult if you want everything in life to be perfect and suit you.”
Where Ammar believed he was in control, he simply reminded Karma that removing herself with grace was the best response to his red flags.
The moment proved to be empowering for female viewers — worldwide. “Yassssss Karma 👏🏽 Thank you for choosing your freedom. And for showing other women how to stand up for themselves in the face of toxic masculinity’.” one Twitter user wrote. Another responded, “Shoutout to Karma shutting down Ammar right then and there for trying to control her for dancing when it was her passion as a form of art! Gotta give her all the respect.”
