“Is the ‘First Love Theory’ a real thing?”

Hey bae! It sounds like the “First Love Theory” has made its way to your TikTok feed. For those unfamiliar, it’s the idea that men never get over their first love.

From the “Three-Month Rule” to “First Love Theory,” it’s easy to think that love can be broken down into a one-size-fits-all approach. That couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Your first love is easy to romanticize as you were most likely young with little long-term pressure. So, if you find yourself hung up on your ex, keep reading.

Set a timer and feel those feelings. The most daunting thing about breakups is the looming sadness. You can’t fall asleep because you keep thinking about them and if you can cry yourself to sleep, you’re most likely dreaming about them, too. So, instead of remaining down in the dumps, stick to a lively schedule and carve out 30 minutes a day to feel those feelings, meditate and ground yourself.

Delete those memories on your phone. Nothing is worse than when Snapchat or iPhoto remind you of a memory… and it’s literally a picture of you and your ex. Avoid this future trap by putting on your big girl panties and deleting everything that could cause tears later.

Pick up a new hobby. Hobbies are essential for self-development and identity so if you don’t have one, get on it quick. Without “you time” you’ll grow lonely, creating desperate decision-making. Instead, try new things, give yourself permission to suck and have fun.

Best of luck, bae!
