RIMOWA has launched some pretty impressive collaborations over the years, teaming up with everyone from Palace to Tiffany & Co. But its latest offering might just be the best collaboration yet. Joining forces with Rick Owens, the new release sees the Lord of Darkness transform the brand’s Original Cabin silhouette with a raw-edged bronze finish.

“No matter how far or long, I only bring one carry-on. I wanted the outside finish to recall a bronze from Giacometti, Brâncuș I, or Richard Serra, and I wanted the interior to feel like the touch of a black leather glove,” Owens explained in a press release. “I don’t need much, but I like my bare necessities to be as supernatural as possible,” the designer continued.

Crafted with a one-of-a-kind patinated aluminum finish, the new case underwent a meticulous, manual pigment application process to create an aged effect which ensures no two suitcases are the same. Designed to evolve as time goes on, the unique patina will deepen the suitcase’s sensory character as it ages.

Along with the new finish, the suitcase also marks RIMOWA’s first-ever fully leather interior, from the lining right up to the flex dividers. Sourced directly from Rick Owens, the suitcase material represents the ultimate collaboration. The Rick Owens emblem appears subtly on the case’s exterior logo badge, with the logo embossed on a leather label and the leather straps.

Completing the offering, which is limited to just 500 numbered pieces, the collaboration includes a special luggage tag crafted from genuine hair on cowskin, developed and produced by Rick Owens in Italy. Celebrating the release is a special campaign starring Owens’ partner and OWENSCORP co-founder, Michèle Lamy.
