Spotify Under Fire Following Premium Ad Rumors

The streaming app has just addressed the rumors.

A rumor circulated that music streaming app Spotify would play advertisements, even if subscribers accessed the app from a premium account. Ad-free services have long been the appeal for premium users causing outrage. On April 9, the platform addressed rumors.

“Don’t you dare put any ads on my Spotify Premium or I’m cancelling it immediately,” a user tweeted this week, putting pressure on the streaming app. “If I get one single ad, I’m cancelling,” another wrote.

The source of the rumor is undisclosed, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor from gaining traction. According to Newsweek, “Spotify did not address where the rumor may have started,” but on April 8, Spotify addressed the rumors.

Newsweek continued, “Some users on The Spotify Community forum recently told how they were experiencing ads on the ad-free Premium tier. Spotify blamed a bug which was later fixed.
