Mark Wahlberg Just Donated $1.5 Million USD in Michelle Williams' Name
The change we need.
Following reports of actress Michelle Williams‘ pay disparity during the shoot of the movie All The Money In The World, her co-star Mark Wahlberg – who was paid 1,500 times more than her to reshoot the film – has donated $1.5 million USD in Williams’ name.
Wahlberg decided to donate all the money he earned to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund in support of the movement, and tweeted that he “100-percent supports the fight for fair pay.” After the pay disparity became an important topic of conversation, Williams also spoke about the situation saying that, ”Today isn’t about me. My fellow actresses stood by me and stood up for me, my activist friends taught me to use my voice, and the most powerful men in charge, they listened and they acted. If we truly envision an equal world, it takes equal effort and sacrifice.” In her statement, the actress added, ”Today is one of the most indelible days of my life because of Mark Wahlberg, WME and a community of women and men who share in this accomplishment. Anthony Rapp, for all the shoulders you stood on, now we stand on yours,” in a statement to ELLE.
The Time’s Up movement has already generated a huge support, and has managed to cause a big shift in the entertainment industry. We can only hope it continues, and make sure to keep checking back here for all the latest news.
