Women in Hollywood Announce a New Anti-Harassment Organization
Including Kerry Washington, Rashida Jones and more.
Over 300 women in Hollywood including actresses, film agents, writers and directors have recently announced an anti-harassment initiative.
As reported by The New York Times, Time’s Up will address the sexual harassment allegations which had been the center of many breaking news stories in 2017.
The organization includes members Kerry Washington, Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria and many others. Originally created in October of last year, Time’s Up serves as a powerful response to the numerous settlements producer Harvey Weinstein reached after women accused him of sexual misconduct. Its mission is described as a “unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere. From movie sets to farm fields to boardrooms alike, we envision nationwide leadership that reflects the world in which we live.”
The organization also includes a legal defense fund to assist women of underprivileged backgrounds to protect themselves from sexual misconduct. The New York Times reports that the members have been holding weekly meetings and hosting workshops.
Time’s Up is responsible for encouraging women to wear black to the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. To learn more, head to its site.
