Take a Look Inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art's "Heavenly Bodies" Exhibit

Breathtaking art.

Tonight’s Met Gala theme was informed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” exhibition. Last year, Rei Kawakubo’s COMME des GARÇONS archives were showcased at the museum and Rihanna, this year’s host, even sported one of her sculptural pieces. Ahead of tonight’s festivities, we got a closer look at the curated display which seeks to create “a dialogue between fashion and medieval art.”

Staged inside the Anna Wintour Costume Center are religious fashions from the early twentieth century to the present. Many of the papal robes, gowns and accessories have never been seen outside of The Vatican making this year’s presentation a special treat. Items from Chanel, Versace and Dior are weaved in with these artifacts to create a full visual of Christian religious wear.

The exhibit will run from May 10 until October 8 at the Met. Tickets are available for $25 USD or free with museum admission. Those who plan to visit can should stop by the museum’s gift shop to peep Pat McGrath’s exclusive makeup collection.
