Valentino's Haute Couture Diamond Mask Looks Strikingly Similar to This Designer's Original Creation
What do you think?
Over the weekend, Pierpaolo Piccioli presented Maison Valentino‘s haute couture show in Beijing. Taking place in the city’s revered Summer Palace, the fashion house showcased 45 stunning pieces that translated a dialogue “of history and heritage,” as the designer told Vogue. Valentino stayed true to the identify of the house while paying respect all the same to its host city, exhibiting jaw-dropping gowns that epitomize both artistry and glamor.
However, amidst the buzz and bustle that accompanied the show, a small voice rung out after the catwalk images hit the Internet. Chinese-Australian designer Sheridan Tjhung took to Instagram soon after the show to present some striking similarities between Valentino’s latest runway presentation and her own work. In particular, Tjhung brings attention to the Diamond Face Veil that was seen on the catwalk – here’s what the designer had to say:
I was trying so hard not to let this get to me…until I saw this.
The velvet straps have been a design feature of the Diamond Face Veil ever since its inception. It’s a reference to the ribbons in my floral work.I almost got rid of the ribbons in favour of a more “professional” fastening. I was worried people would think it looked too ‘home made’. @maisonvalentino I guess not.
It’s no longer a question of inspiration, every design feature has been stolen.
Tjhung is a former florist, who takes pride in her creations of “functional opulence” that support local artisans through handmade pieces. You can see more of the comparison of the two works below. What do you think about the similarities? Let us know in the comment section below.
