Nike Teams up With 'Stranger Things' for a Retro-Inspired Collection
Featuring the Nike Cortez, Blazer and Tailwind silhouettes.
With the release of Netflix‘s cult-favorite TV show Stranger Things right around the corner, sportswear giant Nike has teamed up with the series to create a collection inspired by the small town Hawkins, Indiana, in summer of 1985.
Filled with ’80s nostalgia, the new Stranger Things x Nike collection features three of the Swoosh’s signature silhouettes, the Cortez, Blazer and Tailwind. In 1985, Nike began creating its visible Air designs, which was released two years later, as well as the emerging of the iconic Dunk silhouette. Throughout the series, the protagonists can be seen wearing the retro pieces.
Arriving in two drops, the first collaborate capsule incorporates Hawkins High’s green-and-orange color scheme as well as its graphic tiger mascot, all reimagined into a mix of apparel and footwear. Inspired by 1980s phys-ed class, the sweatsuits and sneakers match from top to toe.
“In the summer of 1985, several transport vehicles departed from Nike HQ in Beaverton, Oregon, carrying special product shipments headed to multiple locations across the US. Unfortunately, a few of the shipments never made it to their destination. These vehicles all had one thing in common…they were last seen on surveillance footage passing through Hawkins, Indiana. Nike, concerned and confused, never mentioned these missing shipments to anyone for fear that something supernatural was at play,” states Nike’s reveal of the collection, adding that “34 years later, signs of the missing shipments are popping up, piece by piece, and it’s clear that there is something deeper, darker and more evil brewing.” Thankfully, Nike has managed to locate some of the missing shipments, revealing that they contained “iconic Nike styles: the Cortez, Blazer and Air Tailwind 79” that were meant to be used in class at Hawkins High.
The first release will see a June 27 release, with the second capsule of footwear debuting on July 1, prior to the Stranger Things season 3 release on July 4.
