Marvel Reaches Milestone With 'Avengers: Endgame' As Highest-Grossing Movie of All Time
Surpassing previous record-holder ‘Avatar.’
Following its release earlier this year in April, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame is now the official highest-grossing movie of all time. This doesn’t come as a huge surprise given the film’s outstanding performance during its opening weekend.
Marvel president and producer Kevin Feige announced the milestone at San Diego Comic Con. “Thanks to you, Avengers: Endgame is the biggest film of all-time,” he told fans at the panel. Although there was a $500,000 USD gap between the movie and the previous highest grossing movie Avatar at $2.7897 billion USD, Endgame was expected to surpass the record by the end of the weekend. It currently holds a record of around $2.9 billion USD.
While the film did extremely well during its opening weekend, the new record is also due to its June re-release containing deleted scenes and new surprises. Even with its whopping three-hour run time, Endgame quickly became the biggest worldwide debut ever.
In case you missed it, the upcoming Thor movie will feature Natalie Portman as the new lead and Tessa Thompson as Marvel’s first LGBTQ+ hero.
