Preview All 117 New Emojis Set for Release This Year
Including the “Italian hand” and gender-inclusive figures.
Unicode has announced 117 new emoji options, set to release sometime this year. The new additions, detailed in a compilation video by Emojipedia, include gender-inclusive figures and the transgender flag, as well as humorous options such as the “Italian hand” with pinched fingers.
Jennifer Daniel, Google’s Design Director for the Android Emoji Program, explained the company’s prioritization of diverse emoji options. “We proposed support for all gender variants for ‘person in veil’ and ‘person in tuxedo,’” she said. Daniel also addressed new childcare emojis that expand on the pre-existing breastfeeding option and add gender-neutral and male figures bottle-feeding a baby. “Since a lack of breasts doesn’t preclude you from nurturing your child, we want to introduce an emoji that everyone can use,” she said.
New face emojis include “slightly smiling face with tear” and “disguised face” while “black cat,” “mammoth” and “seal” have been added to the animal section. Users will also be able to text with “bubble tea,” “tamale” and “fondue” icons.
Check out all 117 new emojis above and stay tuned for their release on Apple and Android devices sometime in 2020.
