You Won't Even Need a Monitor for WFH With Facebook's Newly-Introduced VR Infinite Office
Technology straight out of ‘Black Mirror.’
2020 has been a year of technological advancements as most countries continue to encourage people to stay home and avoid IRL gatherings. At its latest Facebook Connect event, Facebook has announced the new Oculus Quest 2 headset along with Infinite Office, a virtual reality workspace.
Creating another Black Mirror-like moment, the tech giant has unveiled a new productivity feature to the VR gadget that is typically used for gaming. With the headset, users will be able to surf the web without a monitor. Integrating the virtual world with the real-world environment, the device allows the wearer to stay aware of everything going on outside of the digital space while viewing a customized browser at the same time. With hand gestures, you can open e-mails and scroll through websites, and use a physical Logitech keyboard designed for the Oculus Quest 2 to input information.
Currently in its development process, Infinite Office will be rolling out as an experimental release for the Quest 2 device this coming winter. The upcoming technology will also be integrated with third-party apps in the future for a seamless virtual experience. Watch a simulation of Facebook’s Infinite Office in the video above.
In related news, Facebook is also testing a new VR social networking space dubbed Horizon.
