Dior Celebrates Strong Women With Its Pre-Fall 2022 Collection
The capsule is a triumphant celebration of the diversity of femininity.
The vibrant and empowered sisterhood that shaped the legacy of the fashion house guides the Italian designer’s creative vision for the capsule.
In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Chiuri references a moodboard featuring the fashion designer’s closest female couture seamstresses and collaborators, noting that “all these very strong women supported him inside the studio together [and] made the Dior house so strong and so powerful.”
Chiuri unified the collection with a vintage Dior family emblem that represents female solidarity and togetherness. The symbol, “l’union fait la force,” which translates to “strength through unity,” is visible on the eye-catching yellow plaid skirts and sweaters. The overall effect is reminiscent of British pop-punk style, embodying a spirit of playful defiance.
Inspired by her own strength and determined spirit, Chiuri used her youthful rebellion against the harsh edges and austerity of a Catholic school uniform as a foundation for the collection’s visual aesthetic. The latest line from the French label borrows crisp silhouettes from the boys and marries the masculine shapes with pop-punk prints and romantic fabrics.
The melange of structured kilts and utilitarian pencil skirts includes quilted puffer jackets reimagined as textural dresses cinched with wide safety belts. A classic gray cap sleeve shift dress offers a subtle antidote to the line’s dramatic shapes.
Alongside the curated assortment of daytime uniform essentials are highly feminine options for special occasions.
Bountiful black gossamer is molded into full skirts and paired with strappy bustiers and sheer lace tops for a romantic yet gothic look. Elsewhere, sparkling shirt dresses offer a bright spot of color and shine in the range of clothing.
