Britney Spears Granted Her Own Attorney in Conservatorship Case
“I want to press charges against my father today. I want an investigation into my dad.”
The Los Angeles Superior Court has given Britney Spears the choice to hire her own lawyer in the ongoing battle over her conservatorship, helmed by her father, Jamie Spears.
During a court hearing earlier today, the pop star expressed frustration over the phone, pleading that she wants her father removed as her main conservator. “I want to press charges against my father today,” she said while breaking down in tears. “I want an investigation into my dad.” According to CNN, the pop star retained “former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart, a veteran entertainment litigator who was in attendance at Wednesday’s hearing, to be her new counsel.”
Samuel D. Ingham had been Spears’s court-appointed lawyer since the start of her conservatorship in 2008. However, after facing criticism for his representation, Ingham resigned last week. Wealth management company Bessemer Trust, the co-conservator of Spears’s estate, has also resigned. As a result, the elder Spears is the sole conservator of his daughter’s finances.
Moments ago, the artist took to Instagram to share her reaction to the hearing with videos of her horseback riding and doing cartwheels, along with the caption: “Coming along, folks … coming along. New with real representation today … I feel gratitude and blessed.” She continued: “Thank you to my fans who are supporting me … You have no idea what it means to me be supported by such awesome fans. God bless you all!”
