A Live-Action 'Pokémon' Show Is In the Works
Slated to premiere on Netflix.
Joining the live-action series train is none other than ’90s classic video game Pokémon. According to Variety, the show is in early development at Netflix.
No details about the project’s plot have been revealed yet. However, sources state that the live-action series might be similar to the 2019 Detective Pikachu movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith. Joe Henderson, Lucifer‘s co-showrunner and executive producer, will reportedly write and executive produce the upcoming show. Netflix and Henderson’s representatives have not commented on the announcement so far.
Netflix’s decision to develop this project follows the streaming giant’s acquisition of the franchise’s anime series, including Pokémon: Indigo League and Pokémon Journeys. In addition, the company’s selection of anime originals is set to expand with shows based on Far Cry, Splinter Cell and Terminator.
