Walmart Has Plans To Join the Metaverse

The retail chain filed several trademark applications related to cryptocurrency and NFTs.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office reveals that Walmart is planning to venture into the metaverse.

The retail chain filed trademark applications back in December 2021 that showcased its interest to make and sell virtual items, such as electronics, toys and sporting goods. The documents cite operations related to cryptocurrency, the metaverse and NFTs, although nothing has been confirmed yet. Last year, Walmart was embroiled in a cryptocurrency hoax that caused Litecoin, a relatively obscure currency, to skyrocket.

With many brands looking to expand their business into the digital realm, this may be the chain’s attempt to keep up with the times by filing trademarks. Stay tuned for more updates.
