Rick Owens x Dr. Martens Reunite for FW22 Boots
The designer reworks the 1460 and 1918 silhouettes.
Rick Owens has joined forces with Dr. Martens once again, designing new boots for the Fall/Winter 2022 season.
Following up on their 1460 Bex Boot, Gryphon Sandal and 1461 Bex DS, the duo has designed two footwear styles this time around. The 1918 boot arrives with its upper entirely constructed with Hair-On leather, accompanied by pearl laces accompanied by dull silver hook and eyelet trims. The design is contrasted with the footwear brand’s chunky sole, while the extended tongue completes the shoes.
Meanwhile, the 1460 8-eye boot is reworked in black Lunar leather, which is contrasted with white laces and extra-wide eyelets true to Rick Owens’ grunge aesthetic. The shoelaces wrap around the ankle, and Dr. Martens’ signature yellow stitching highlights the chunky sole. Zipper fastening on the sides rounds out the design.
Owens shared in a press release, “When I was a teen and becoming physically aware, I saw how a tightly laced ankle leading to a broad, solidly planted foot had a simple, modest, industrial masculinity — almost like a corset between a muscled calf and a sturdy foot that acted as a stoic ballast. DM’s exemplified this best. I saw them on all the guys flying through the air at the shows I went to then… Fear… Black flag… The screamers… Alien sex fiend… Dr. Martens became a symbol of a raw and sweaty vitality that I thought I might be able to pull off… And for a minute, I think I did…”
