Rita Ora "Mermaidcore" Display Is Top Tier Experimental Glam
The literal face gills are an automatic ten out of ten.
Rita Ora took The Little Mermaid‘s “Under the sea” tune to the next level as she morphed into a literal walking mermaid at the 2022 British Fashion Awards.
The statement makeup moment hit the red carpet at the BFA’s and we’re sure it was the talk of the evening. Ora went full-on mermaidcore by blocking out her eyebrows with fish-gill prosthetics, topped with a “freshly bitten” lip color. We did some digging and saw that master makeup artist and founder Isamaya Ffrench was the genius behind the daring look. However, the star wasn’t done slaying. Keeping up with appearances, her hair was styled in fresh, lived-in mermaid curls that were delicately pulled away from her face. The cherry on top of the cake was her completely see-through dress with exposed undergarments, giving “lady of the sea.”
Ora’s mermaidcore display signals that we will see more of the upcoming trend for hair and makeup looks going into 2023. We’re already taking notes.
