The New adidas Supernova Is Designed for all the Running Girlies

Created with all-level athletes in mind.

In a footwear landscape full of expensive racing shoes and social media feeds showing runners training for marathons and ultras, there’s something refreshing about an athlete who considers themself a casual runner—and just as refreshing to see adidas create a sneaker catered to this type of fitness enthusiast. The newly revamped Supernova franchise is the latest line from the sportswear giant, and was designed with comfort and ease for those who like to add a few miles to their multi-faceted workout routine without sacrificing the technology and features of adidas’s signature performance shoes.

“Not everyone is an elite runner who wants to break world records,” explains adidas category director Juliette Oldfield. “There’s a lot of other runners, too. We are really good at making this elite winning athlete first-class product, but you wouldn’t try and sell a Formula 1 race car to somebody who wanted an SUV.” With this in mind, the Supernova line was created with one guiding principle: to get more people to run. To achieve this, adidas surveyed female runners to fully understand their needs and what they look for in a trainer. For those who consider themselves more casual runners, comfort was one of the most important factors, becoming an element that permeates throughout the new series.

Leading the releases from the revamped Supernova line is the Supernova Rise, an effective yet fuss-free running shoe. It modifies existing technology for new use while introducing fresh features. “In our race shoes, we do have this super light foam and carbon rods,” says Oldfield. “We’ve learned a lot from that, so is there a way to adapt those to this? Yes.” The Supernova Rise’s foundational feature is a Dreamstrike+ midsole, a proprietary foam that provides cushioning underfoot. Dreamstrike+ was informed by Lightstrike Pro, the material found in adidas’s race-minded Adizero line, but reimagined with added comfort in mind. This is complemented by a support rod system for additional stability.

Perhaps one of the most thoughtful details comes through in the shoe’s heel design, which combines cushioning with a soft textile to minimize the likelihood of irritating rubbing and post-jog blisters. As for aesthetics, the Supernova Rise takes cues from nature and bioluminescence as seen on the dark base with semi-green details. And even though this model was designed for everyday athletes in mind, it’s a strong addition to any running shoe rotation because of its well-rounded suite of features.

The adidas Supernova Rise will be available for both men and women at Running Warehouse, Road Runner Sports and Marathon Sports beginning December 1 and is priced at $140 USD.

In other news, adidas and Sporty & Rich have released new collaborative Sambas.
