Ice Spice isn’t afraid to be unapologetically herself, and that shines through in her personal style. The Bronx native is known for her curly signature orange locks and her Y2K-inspired street style. In her latest interview with The Cut, Ice Spice, whose real name is Isis Gaston, discusses how her fashion sense has changed since gaining fame.

Before fame, she admitted to wearing “cheap sh-t.” She said, “Shout-out Fashion Nova: They held it down for a minute.” Now, she’s switched to “expensive sh-t.” However, she claims that when it comes down to it, it doesn’t matter what you wear as long as you rock it with confidence.

Her early music, which she calls “serious flops,” altered how she views herself in the industry in regards to personal style. Before dropping her breakout song, “Munch (Feelin’ U),” Ice Spice had a few tracks that didn’t do so well, which she blamed on her desire to fit in. As a result, she’s decided to stay true to herself.

“Once I brought it back to the real me and my roots, and I put my Jordans back on, and I just wore my natural hair, and I was just really being authentic to myself, that’s when my views started going up again,” she added. “I was like, ‘Let me just be me.’”

She continued, “I feel like a lot of the time, stylists will not even match your energy. They’ll try to make you a new person, and I don’t f-ck with that, you know?”
