Visual Activist Zoongboo Unveils New Immersive Exhibition, "Climate Heroes"
The Sarabande Foundation resident depicts the effect of climate emergency through striking, digital characters.
Visual artist and Sarabande Foundation resident Zongbo Jiang unveils “Climate Heroes,” a showcase reflecting how a series of unique species are affected by the ongoing climate emergency. At heart, the exhibition serves as a reminder of the Paris Agreement goal, which urges to limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2050.
As a temperature rise of 2.4°C is forecasted by the end of the century instead, Jiang illustrates the devastating effect this would have on endangered species through a striking, made-up narrative. The 12 digital characters created, including the humble “Bumblebee” and tropical “Coral,” depict the wild and turbulent amalgamation of their respective ecosystems due to global warming.
Overall, the immersive and accessible experience seeks to familiarise the audience with empirical information about environmental degradation. “While half a degree sounds insignificant, an IPCC Special Report identified it will lead to a 100% increase in flood risk, a further 10 cm rise in sea levels, severe drought and many more monumental changes affecting humans and non-humans alike,” explains the London-based visual activist in the show notes.
Moreover, in support of Earth Day, Jiang is hosting a creative workshop teaching guests how to create their very own “Climate Hero” personality. To book tickets, visit this link on Eventbrite.
