Almine Rech Gallery's "Feeling of Light" Exhibition Celebrates Love and Remembrance

Showcasing the work of 30 women artists.

The roots of painting can be traced back to a touching story from ancient times, in which a woman named Kora of Sicyon drew the outline of her lover’s shadow in charcoal on a wall as a way to remember him while he was away. Today, that act of remembrance is celebrated in a new group exhibition entitled “Feeling of Light” at Almine Rech Gallery in Brussels.

The all-woman-led show features a diverse range of styles, from figuration to abstraction, and showcases the work of talented artists such as Inès LongevialHiba Schahbaz, Emma Stern and Dawn Williams Boyd, among others. According to the gallery, Kora’s simple act of drawing her lover’s shadow paved the way for the invention of representation and the idea of capturing an image before it fades away, which is reflected in the artists’ work on display.

The exhibition aims to honor the shared dedication of these women artists to capture the essence of light and memory in their work. “Feeling of Light” will be on display at Almine Rech’s Brussels location until May 27, inviting visitors to explore the profound origins of painting and the enduring power of love and remembrance.

Elsewhere, Night Café Gallery frees the self through Art in first exhibition, “FLUIDITY.”
