Janelle Monáe Finally Drops New Album 'The Age of Pleasure'
It’s her first LP in five years.
UPDATE (June 9, 2023): Janelle Monáe has finally dropped her highly anticipated fourth studio album, The Age of Pleasure, which is also her first album in five years.
The LP is made up of 14 tracks, unveiling a never-before-seen side of the singer. “My friends have gotten an opportunity to see a different side of me that nobody gets to see, and this album, this moment that l’m having, I’m allowing myself to show that version of Janelle that friends get to see all the time,” she told Apple Music. “I want to own all of me and be all of me.”

UPDATE (June 8, 2023): Janelle Monáe has taken to social media to unveil the tracklist to her upcoming album, The Age of Pleasure.
“#TheAgeOfPleasure TRACKLiSTING AND FEATURES! 2 more days to go,” she captioned a post on Instagram. “This project wouldn’t be the same without each of you. I wish everyone could have been a spider on the speaker while we had the most fun making thingsssss. Legendary times were had.”
The album includes collabs with Sister Nancy, Grace Jones and more.

UPDATE (June 7, 2023): To further promote her music, Janelle Monáe dropped a new album trailer a few days before dropping the official project, which is titled The Age of Pleasure.
In the clip, fans are being interviewed for PleasureTV, being asked about Monáe’s new era, what’s in their bags and more.
When asked how they’re preparing for The Age of Pleasure, many fans responded by revealing they’ll be “masturbating,” wearing whatever I want, whenever the f-ck I want” and “going to therapy.”

ORIGINAL STORY (May 11, 2023): Janelle Monáe is back. She announced her upcoming studio album, titled The Age of Pleasure. She also dropped a new single — “Lipstick Lover.”
The Age of Pleasure will mark Monáe’s first album in five years. She previously dropped Dirty Computer in 2018.
“As we enter into The Age Of Pleasure, ‘Lipstick Lover’ is our freeassmothaf-cka anthem inspired by f.a.m. for f.a.m.,” the singer wrote in a press release for the album. “This is our oasis made with love, rooted in self-acceptance, throbbing in self-discovery, and signed with cherry red kisses from me to you.”
For the upcoming LP, Monáe elaborated on how playing her music at parties was a way of testing the material. “What I would do is if I knew we were having a party on that Friday or Saturday, on Monday and Tuesday, I’d be like, ‘All right. We’re going to write three songs,’” she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “If the songs can’t work at the party, they’re not going on the album. “I was walking around. I was so scared. I almost went to the bathroom one time. But ‘Float,’ we did that. ‘Lipstick Lover,’ we did like that. I have a song called ‘Champagne Machine’ that’s on there… basically every song that you’ll hear on the project, that’s how I did it. I want it to be so specific to this Pan-African crowd who are my friends. I want it to be a love letter to the diaspora. And if they fuck with it, it’s good. I’m great.”
