K-Pop Group MEOVV Spills the Tea on Their Latest Project
“From the beginning, I think what made MEOVV special was the identity we wanted to build together.”
Since their debut in 2024, MEOVV have carved out a world of their own, balancing sharp aesthetics with a playful edge that feels distinctly theirs. The five-member group, consisting of SOOIN, GAWON, ANNA, NARIN and ELLA, has quickly made their mark on K-pop, from earning their first music show win with “HANDS UP” to seeing their sophomore EP, BITE NOW, debut at No. 7 on Billboard’s World Albums chart. Now, with their latest project, GO HARD, the quintet is embracing a new chapter, exploring the pressures of growing up and the journey of finding your own path.
Blending high-energy beats with more vulnerable moments, the release champions individuality, confidence and self-expression, capturing the fearless spirit of a group determined to do things their own way. Inspired by late-night studio sessions, shared ambitions and the feeling of being young and wild, GO HARD is as much a mindset as it is a title. For MEOVV, it’s about giving everything their all, no matter the challenge.
We caught up with the members to discuss the making of the album, finding their individual sounds within the group and what they hope to share with fans as they continue to expand their musical universe. Read on for the full interview.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how MEOVV started?
Sooin: I’ve always had a passion for dancing and performing, and that passion eventually led me to THEBLACKLABEL [record label], where I made my debut as a member of MEOVV.
Gawon: I trained the longest, so I got to watch each member join, and MEOVV formed. We all met and trained under the same record label and made our debut in 2024. From the beginning, I think what made MEOVV special was the identity we wanted to build together, something chic and sharp, but also playful and full of character. Our name comes from the sound of a cat, which reflects how we want to express ourselves through our own unique sounds and connect with people through music.
Anna: I’m from Japan, and after joining the label, I met some amazing producers and my fellow members, which eventually led us to debut as MEOVV.
Narin: I do most of the rapping in the group, and our fans call me SLAYRIN. I feel like MEOVV happened very naturally even though we all have different personalities. It just made sense.
Ella: I’m the youngest of our group, and I was born and raised in LA. I’ve always loved performing, and I started my training in the summer of 2023 and now the five of us are MEOVV!
How would you describe your individual sound?
Gawon: I’m always experimenting and still learning more about my individual sound, but I’m naturally drawn to sounds that have a certain depth and atmosphere to them. I have a pretty clear voice, but I’ve been training to sing in deeper and more soulful tones. I think that’s what I bring to MEOVV sonically: a pure yet rich vocal tone.
Anna: I would say my soft and calm voice is what defines my unique color. Even in songs with strong energy, I try to bring my own vibe through my voice while making sure it blends naturally with the overall sound. I’m working hard to become a vocalist who can express MEOVV’s unique character through my singing.
The project is titled GO HARD. Can you tell us the story behind the name?
Sooin: There’s a saying we have among the members: “If we’re going to do something, we’re going to do it right!” No matter how big or small it is, we always want to give it our all, and that’s exactly what GO HARD is about. The song really captures that MEOVV mentality, and we wanted to share our youthful energy and empower everyone who listens to it.
The record has a very upbeat energy to it. What were some of your inspirations behind the work? Any personal experiences that influenced the songs?
Anna: I get a lot of inspiration from talking with the members. We often share our dreams and visions, and this time, we really wanted to bring that confidence and passion into our music. Throughout the process, we exchanged a lot of ideas, not just among ourselves but also with our producers. Being part of the creative process and seeing all those ideas come together as one piece of art was really inspiring for me.
Narin: Our late-night sessions together were a big source of inspiration. The feeling of being young and wild!! We were working on the song while promoting “DDI RO RI” and “Hit ‘Em,” so I feel like that strong energy made us want to go even harder with it.
You’ve experimented with different sides of your sound, from R&B influences to the more high-energy beats. Is there a new side of MEOVV that you think listeners will discover through this release?
Narin: We were able to show both a really strong side of MEOVV and a more vulnerable side of us as well. It was a lot of fun for us to explore not just different genres, but also different emotions and messages through our music. We are very glad that our listeners got to see more of that duality in MEOVV.
What do you want listeners to feel or take away from the new album?
Ella: I want listeners to relate to our songs in a way that makes them feel something. We always make our music with the intent of leaving a lasting impression, so I hope we achieved that.
What’s next for you guys?
Gawon: We want to continue expanding our musical world as MEOVV, solidifying our identity as a team and growing together along the way. We’re especially excited to meet more PAWMPAWMs [the official fandom name] around the world and bring our music and performances to them, because there’s something truly special about sharing the same space and energy with our fans. Those moments are incredibly meaningful to us, not only as artists but also in helping us grow closer as a team. We still have so much more we want to explore and share through our music, so we’re excited for what’s ahead and hope everyone looks forward to it!
