Meet the "Tampon Test," a Pregnancy Test Roe v. Wade Forced Us To Hide
Genderless period care brand August sets a new standard.
Next-gen genderless menstrual care brand August releases a new wellness on the anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
On June 22, 2022, the landmark case that granted vagina owners the right to abortion services was overturned. On the anniversary of that sobering day and the “increase in digital surveillance on menstruators,” August releases the Tampon Test, the brand shared.
The Tampon Test is a “discrete pregnancy test hidden as a tampon wrapper inside August tampon boxes,” the brand shared. It’s “our way of shedding light on the hidden invasion of privacy menstruators are facing today,” said Nadya Okamoto , co-founder of August. “By disguising tests as tampons, we are bringing awareness to the lack of privacy and reflection, which would allow menstruators the time and space to make timely and informed decisions about their reproductive health privately, as they should.”
For those unfamiliar, the overturning didn’t just target our agency, it also violated the privacy of many as “states are using data – direct messages, cookies and search history – as circumstantial evidence in court.” As a result, vagina owners have been forced to opt for discretion, or be penalized at a government level.
