Emerging Designer Shalou Reimagines School Uniforms for FW24
Blurring the lines between preppy and street-ready.
Making waves at Shanghai Fashion Week is up-and-coming fashion brand Shalou. Hailing from Taiwan and founded by designer Ko, the brand is on a mission to redefine menswear with a fresh perspective. Originally set up when Ko was a student at Tokyo‘s prestigious Bunka Fashion College, Shalou is making its debut seasonal collection for Fall/Winter 2024.
Titled “ZHUANG YUAN,” which refers to someone at the top of their field or a test’s highest achiever, the collection takes the school uniform to a whole new level.
It features classic elements like collared shirts, ties and baseball caps, and reimagines them with a modern twist. A pair of sleek black trousers layered with a lightweight checkered skirt, cleverly mimicking the casual style of a shirt tied around the waist, is a clear standout. Hoodies are also noteworthy. They come adorned with bold, school-colored ties draped loosely around the neck, blurring the lines between preppy and street-ready.
By taking traditional academia-inspired garments and fusing them with streetwear influences and tongue-in-cheek styling, Shalou is breathing new life into geek chic.
The collection is now available to purchase on Shalou’s website. Click the gallery above to check out the collection.
