Loro Piana Honors 100-Year Heritage at Milan Fashion Week

Revisiting its innovative fabric compositions.

Italian luxury label Loro Piana showcases its forthcoming Fall/Winter 2024-2025 collection at this year’s Milan Fashion Week.

Honoring its century-long legacy of perfecting its craftsmanship spanning fibers, fabrics, and shapes that carved the Maison’s lane in luxury, this year focuses on its historical association with the fiori di cardo (or thistle flower). From utilizing the carding machine — a tool equipped with the brand’s signature thistle flowers to brush and raise cashmere achieving its unique texture — to it being incorporated into its coat of arms since 1951, the cardo has always been a main point of reference for the House.

The forthcoming collection also explores Loro Piana’s unique fabric excellences including Cheviot, Vicuña, cashmere, and Baby Cashmere. The Maison also delves into its archives to reintroduce its signature Pecora Nera®, exclusively sourced in New Zealand, as well as Sopra Visso wool from the Sibillini Mountains of Italy.

This season, Loro Piana provides an outdoor spin on its signature elegant aesthetic to redefine femininity. Trench coats, anoraks, and blousons complement liquid silk jackets and satin skirts that incorporate neutral tones of “Nougat,” “Dusty Khaki,” and the Maison’s “Tundra” as well as deeper notes of “Burgundy,” “Eclypse Blue,” and “Mélange Gray.” The collection also features more traditional flowing pleated skirts as well as its revered silk and jacquard dresses. Similar to its menswear offering, tailored pieces grace its evening wear as fitted tuxedos, band collar jackets, and blazers with embroidered lapels are met with sleek trousers and statement all-over sequin dresses in classic monotone black and white colors — all complemented with a range of formal hat silhouettes.

Leather goods stand out in FW24-25 with Loro Piana launching its latest Ghiera shopper silhouette that plays with texture and volume through its grid and closure design. The Maison also delivers new iterations of the iconic double-handle Loom bag revamped in felted cashmere, zibeline leather, and printed calf whilst the Extra Bag returns with a new selection of colors and leathers.

The collection is rounded off with its vast jewelry offering. This year’s stand-out cardo-shaped pins pay homage to how Sergio Loro Piana — who was at the helm of the brand from the ‘70s to 2013 — used to store jackets with the collar up and lapels pinned to maintain the softness of the fold. The Duo pieces, however, find synergy between the juxtaposition of leather and brass for a sleek accessory range that is comprised of necklaces and bracelets.

To commemorate this year’s Milan Fashion Week and its new Fall/Winter 2025-2025 Collection presentation, Loro Piana is hosting an immersive installation in Italy’s fashion capital, chronicling its rich heritage in technical fabric innovations from heat-conducting Graphene to cashmere-blend materials as well as spotlighting the fiori di cardo and a selection of books from its archives.

The Maison also takes over the kiosk on Via dei Giardini inspired by its signature cardo flower. Running on February 23 and 24, it is open to the public where bouquets of carefully selected thistle flowers are being gifted to visitors.
