Butt Crack Is So Back, According to Fashion Week SS27
How low can we go?
The Spring/Summer 2027 season of Fashion Week is well and truly upon us, with New York, London and Milan already over. As we break the back of Paris, we’re starting to see a few familiar trends creeping back onto our radar. One such trend that’s made a controversial return is the lowest of the low-rise: the bumster.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen the super-low silhouette return to the runway, the daring style made multiple appearances at the last Spring/Summer season at McQueen, but this season felt like the official homecoming of the trend.
In New York, cracks came back at Emily Dawn Long, Private Policy and 7 For All Mankind, while in London, Mowalola pushed it even further. In Paris already, we spotted a more layered version of the trend courtesy of Julie Kegels and already, there’s a hint of more to come at Balenciaga.
Keep reading for more examples.
Emily Dawn Long
Emily Dawn Long‘s SS27 collection featured a slew of evening silhouettes with a twist. Vibrant blues and yellows appeared on ruffled mini dresses and midi-length gowns, alongside sleek black skirts with matching tops. While, from the front on, these silhouettes seemed like your average gown, the flip-side was far cheekier. Turning around to reveal deep, bum-length cut-outs bordered by frills, these daring details added a hint of edge to traditional eveningwear.
Private Policy
Private Policy SS27 explored the cross-cultural dialogue between New York and China through the uniquely sporty lens of basketball culture. Pairing ruched shirts and slinky cami tops with equally slinky trousers, these silhouettes featured low-rise waists and below-the-hip cut-outs.
Mowalola
Mowalola’s off-schedule LFW show resulted in a few pretty daring silhouettes. The most common look was the low rise, seen in sleek pencil skirts and figure-hugging trousers. Not long after the showcase took place, music icon Tyla was spotted wearing the low-rise ensemble to the Video Music Awards.
Julie Kegels
Julie Kegels SS27 took a slightly different approach, still showcasing the low-rise style but in a far more conservative way. Presenting waistbands that were a second from falling off, the designer paired the structured bands with button-down shirts and blazers in favor of bare skin.
Julian Klausner printed invented movie posters onto polos and pinned brooches to just about everything for a collection about getting ready purely for the fun of it.
After years of viral moments and dresses immortalized in the sport’s history books, the storied sportswear brand has emerged as one of tennis’ greatest tastemakers.
