Sarah Burton Joins Givenchy As Creative Director
Marking the brand’s eighth creative director and the second woman to hold the position in its history.
After a year without a creative director, Givenchy has officially put the rumors of John Galliano joining to rest, announcing Sarah Burton as the new creative director today.
The brand shared Burton’s statement in an Instagram post, “It is a great honour to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel. I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs.”
Before Givenchy, Burton dedicated her entire career to Alexander McQueen, where she joined right after graduation and became head of womenswear within just three years. Known for his dramatic and theatrical designs, McQueen’s influence remained strong in Burton’s work, though she introduced a slightly softer touch.
Her last collection for McQueen was shown in October 2023, marking the end of her 23-year tenure. Burton’s debut show for Givenchy is scheduled for March 2025.
