Rosie and Mollie Kmita on Taking a Step Back to Push the Women’s Sports Community Forward

The ex-footballers and Powerhouse Project founders reflect on their careers and how they’re reclaiming their spare time with the new Meta Quest 3S.

Hypebae is proud to present our latest partnership with Meta Quest. Together we’ll be exploring the everyday dynamics and passions of tight-knit duos in our space, looking at how their relationship and interests have evolved over the years and how they use the immersive power of the Meta Quest to get more into what they’re into.

The latest installment in the series spotlights ex-professional footballers and founders of the Powerhouse Project Rosie and Mollie Kmita. In a similar vein to the previous episode, the twins unpack the highs and lows in their lives that have ultimately led them to nurture a strong sibling bond. And, as they’ve navigated their paths, in both professional and personal senses, it’s football that has stood out as the one common denominator of their success, making their relationship that bit more unique.

Whether playing, spectating, or educating, sport has proven to be a guiding light that Rosie and Mollie have centered themselves around. But, what started as joining the boys in the local neighborhood for casual kickabouts at the park soon turned into an uphill battle to be taken seriously. “You always had to fight to be seen,” Mollie expresses. “The football you see now is a totally different game from what we used to play growing up.”

Despite the obstacles, their resilience and years of hard work culminated with stints at West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur, and Brighton & Hove, to name a few. “I feel like I lost a big community when I left football,” says Mollie on the sense of belonging the clubs gave her. After taking some time out, they joined forces to establish the Powerhouse Project – a sporting community aimed at empowering women in the industry. “We were lucky to have each other and we saw the power in our support network,” she adds. “Now, to widen the net and help others is great.”

Naturally, their move away from playing professionally has opened up more time for them to put back into themselves. Picking up the Meta Quest 3S, the twins show how this new tool can help them rediscover old passions through sports and fitness apps as well as immersive entertainment, bringing them to recalibrate their focus in life. “The biggest struggle I found was that lack of structure, but one thing that keeps me sane is training,” says Rosie. As seen in the feature, she uses the FitXR app to push her strength to the limit in high-intensity workouts that, in turn, help her maintain good mental health.

Meanwhile, Mollie finds solace in using the Meta Quest 3S for games and training, allowing her to lean into her competitive edge. “Where I have lost that element of playing sport, I’m trying to find what drives me,” she says. Thinking of the long days now spent supporting new talent, doing press runs to promote work, or providing live commentary at games, Mollie browses the endless apps on offer, but it’s the football-based trainer app Rezzil that takes her pick.

Discover the exclusive campaign with Rosie and Mollie Kmita in the galleries above as they delve into new viewing experiences of films and documentaries as well as exploring more sporting games in virtual reality.
