Azzy Milan Wants You to Take Your Self Care Routine Seriously

“It just really brings me joy to go to bed and wake up to a therapeutic routine.”

Azzy Milan has always considered herself a girly girl. As the daughter of rapper Fat Joe, Azzy was born into the spotlight. But surprisingly enough, being in the public eye has never stopped the content creator from prioritizing the things that bring her the most joy — which of course includes her ritualistic beauty routine.

For Azzy, makeup, hair and skincare is much more than just products — it’s a staple of her identity. While her hairstyles and glam serve as the most vital piece of all of her daily looks, her skincare routine is a tried-and-true way for her to wind down and feel her best both mentally and physically.

Although the star is used to the public attention, she acknowledges that having a social media presence can be stressful at times. “Being in the public eye definitely tests your mental state,” she tells Hypebae. “It is a never ending battle, but I feel as though it is helping me navigate what I prioritize when it comes to working on myself in areas I have control over.” While putting yourself first can mean something different to everyone — to Azzy, self care is of the utmost importance when it comes to feeling like herself.

As far back as she can remember, Azzy has unapologetically embraced femininity — sporting big bows and pink lipstick throughout her childhood. Now, at 19 years old, the influencer’s love for the girly details has translated into a passion for skincare and self care. As a skincare enthusiast, Azzy deeply understands what does and doesn’t work for her skin — along with the importance of wearing SPF everyday. While her own skincare regimen has allowed her to pamper herself, it’s also majorly contributed to her self confidence. “I struggled with cystic acne for a long time and curating the right skincare routine has really changed my life, not to be dramatic,” she says.

Similarly, beauty plays an essential role in the content creator’s personal style. When deciding what to wear, Azzy says that beauty is often the very first step. “Grunge looks call for an edgy wing eyeliner, or a pastel pink dress calls for a soft baby blush on my cheeks. Even with hair, I put chopsticks and charms in my hair to execute a look perfectly,” she says. No matter what look she’s pulling off, the influencer has her ensembles down to a science. “It’s all cohesive with the story behind the looks,” she adds.

Because of her affinity for beauty details, Azzy is also a master of references — citing major pop culture moments like Pamela Anderson‘s messy updo as sources of inspiration. Beyond that, the star finds that like most creative mediums, beauty is all about tapping into different parts of yourself and experimenting with looks that make you feel the most confident. “I guess you could say I get inspo from whatever I’m wearing and feeling that day,” she tells Hypebae.

From a custom Emi Jay hairbrush to Hello Kitty blotting paper — ahead, Azzy Milan spills five of her beauty essentials.

“I’ve been using the Vaseline Shimmer for a little over a year now. I was on vacation with a friend who was using it and the whole time she looked like a glazed donut. I was immediately sold and ordered it while we were still out of the country. It’s an easy way to go out looking glowy, tan — but not greasy.”

“It’s just a no-brainer and a classic! This product has been around for forever, so I’d say it’s tried-and-true. Smells like marshmallows, pairs well with your perfume and doesn’t leave any nasty residue. I found this a while ago in the midst of my usual shopping at Sephora, and it has never let me down. I can’t feel good without smelling good.”

LAWLESS Forget The Filler Lip Gloss

“My makeup artist used this on me during one of my glam sessions earlier this year and my life was changed. ‘Strawberry Milkshake’ is the perfect baby doll, milky pink and it actually lasts! It doesn’t fall off like most lip glosses. It’s the best quality I’ve tried — and I’ve tried them all. This gloss paired with a liner is all you’ll need to finish off your makeup look.”

Emi Jay Custom Hair Brush

“This was an impulsive buy that was influenced by an ad, that has now turned into a staple in my routine. Outside of genuinely liking how the brush [feels] on my hair, I like how it romanticizes my personal routine and the way it looks on my vanity. I’m very girly, so anything that adds to my feminine essence, I’m all for. I feel as women, we should take more pride in making our self care routines a top tier experience, especially when getting ready for the day. You feel and perform your best when you give yourself that extra attention.”

“A total makeup saver, and I just love me some Hello Kitty so it’s a double steal. I have oily combo skin, so I have to have these while I’m out with full glam. They help take away those extra oils and sweat to keep my makeup set all night, no matter the climate. I remember being so hot and dewy at Coachella this year, and I was amazed by how these snatched me back together. Like my personalized brush, the Hello Kitty just adds an extra flavor that excites me to take them everywhere! If you have oily or oily-combo skin, your skin and makeup routine will thank you for this purchase.”
