Tune in for the full statement.
Gucci announces Demna as its newest Artistic Director.
The latest in the creative director reshuffle, Kering, the conglomerate responsible for fashion’s most loved houses, appoints Demna. The Georgian designer was formerly at Balenciaga and VETEMENTS.
In a statement shared by the Business of Fashion, Francesca Bellettini, the CEO of Yves Saint Laurent, opened up about the decision, revealing it was serendipitous, where most assumed it was random. “We went out for dinner. I said: ‘We would really love to talk about this opportunity.’”
To their surprise, Demna took a pause and then shared excitement. “Yes! I have it in my mind — let me put together the project for you,” Demna told them. “He worked on that, and when Stefano and I received it for the first time, we were both: ‘Let’s accelerate!’” Bellettini continued.
According to her, their creative journey together only further proves to be kismet. “I kept getting incredible messages from both of them. It’s a company which, whenever you light up that spark of creativity and of artistic vision, performs.”
The decision was not supposed to be shared today, however, after a successful first team meeting, Bellettini decided to publicly share the news.
