Why Alia Guagni Quite Literally Wore Her CV on Her Sleeve
The former Italy international made a statement during Como’s recent Napoli game.
During Como’s 3-1 win over Napoli on Sunday, former Italy international Alia Guagni wore her CV printed on the back of her shirt — a statement underscoring the uncertainty many female footballers face when their playing days end.
“I’ve never been someone who seeks the spotlight,” Guagni told The Guardian. “But there are times when speaking up is the only right thing to do — especially when it might help those who come next.” They say dress for the job you want — Guagni came dressed with proof she still needs one.

She’s far from alone. Barcelona winger Fridolina Rolfö recently told us, “The women’s game doesn’t get the same support as the men’s… The quality is inconsistent — one day you’re in a top-notch stadium, the next you’re on a field barely fit to play on, worried about getting injured because the conditions are so bad.” Como Women, Guagni’s final club, say they hope her CV-shirt starts the conversations needed to bring lasting change — and have vowed only to accept sponsors who commit to hiring their players once their sporting careers come to a close.
“Balancing preparation for the future with the demands of professional sport is never simple. A career on the pitch has a natural end.
