Adidas Just Dropped a Soccer Shoe Built Specifically for the Female Foot

Supporting the natural anatomy of the female foot and wear-tested by several adidas athletes.

Adidas just unveiled its new F50 SPARKFUSION football boot, built specifically to support the requirements of the female foot and body. Responding to the very real needs of its athletes, adidas’ new launch comes from the desire to make football boots more comfortable for women. Recent reports have shown that the majority of women players have experienced discomfort from unisex boots at some point in their career and this, coupled with over a decade’s worth of foot anatomy data, extensive scans and rigorous wear testing, is the reason behind this landmark launch.

Tested by adidas’ current athlete and partner roster — including names like Trinity Rodman, Linda Caicedo, Jule Brand, Vicky Lopez, Arsenal Women, Real Madrid Femenino and OL Lyonnes — the new boot is born from the brand’s biggest ever pool of female foot sizing and anatomy data. Pretty impressive, right?

Specifically, the shoe is built to support the narrower heel of female feet, along with higher arches and more volume around the midfoot area, which are relatively big differences that existing unisex styles do not cater for. Along with these anatomic differences, adidas has taken match data insights to support the shoe’s creation, which show that the elite women’s game is increasing in speed and requires quicker changes of direction.

The new shoe is also crafted with a “FUSIONSOLE SOCKLINER,” which provides added support, along with an updated heel structure and external heel counter. Elsewhere, the shoe boasts a brand-new soleplate for support the quicker turns and ease of rotation, plus a new “pivot stud” to help evenly distribute pressure.

“At adidas, we are committed to providing the best sporting equipment for our athletes and community – the new F50 SPARKFUSION is the latest proof of that promise. When assessing the exact requirements for today’s game, our innovation team, product team and designers left no stone unturned to craft a boot that provides our women athletes with comfort, support and data-backed specifications to suit their physiology. The difference that has been made to their game has come through loud and clear in the feedback from our athlete partners and in our testing results – so we can’t wait for everyone to experience the game-changing speed and comfort of F50 SPARKFUSION,” says adidas Football’s general manager, Sam Handy.

“The introduction of F50 SPARKFUSION is a great moment for the women’s game – from grassroots to the professional level,” adds Jule Brand, attacker and adidas athlete. “Having been part of the testing process, I know the level of detail and research that went into producing the boot and can affirm the difference I felt, having worn them in training,” she continues.

The new F50 SPARKFUSION shoe is available in mid-cut, low-cut and laceless models and is available to purchase via adidas.
