A Ballet Flat Version of adidas' Stan Smith Is Coming

The hybrid sneaker trend continues.

The resurgence of the ballet flat is one we’ve been tracking for some time, and honestly, it seems like the silhouette is here to stay. Off the back of new ballerina and Mary-Jane styles emerging from the likes of PUMA, ASICS and Salomon, adidas is doubling down on its own version of the trend.

A few months ago, the brand dropped a Mary-Jane silhouette as part of its collaboration with Taqwa Bint Ali and now, it appears the footwear pioneer is setting its sights on a style that’s a little closer to home. Transforming the ever-classic Stan Smith into a new Ballerina style, the new Stan Smith Low is the latest innovation.

Unlike similar silhouettes, the new release avoids overly feminine details like lace trims or floral appliqué and instead opts for a clean and minimal leather upper. Crafted with an ultra-flat sole and a refined upper, the shoe features a minimal seam across the toe box and boasts a smooth, all-over luxury feel. Based, of course, on the Stan Smith, the new release seemingly bypasses any technical detailing, resulting in what feels like a purely lifestyle-focused silhouette.

Teased on Instagram by addictorial.studio, our first look of the Stan Smith Low lands in two colorways: an all-black iteration and a white with red. Each shoe features perforated stripes and a subtle trefoil logo on the back collar, complete with a singular leather strap.

Take a first look at the new silhouette above and stay tuned for release details coming soon.

In other adidas news, the brand also just dropped a new women’s rugby boot.
