Matthieu Blazy's Debut Chanel Cruise Show Was All About Getting the Bag
Oversized totes, CC logos and Basque stripes took over the beaches of Biarritz.
Matthieu Blazy just presented his debut Cruise collection for Chanel and already, our eyes are on the bag. Showcased with a star-studded cast featuring Alex Consani, Mona Tougaard and newly-appointed brand ambassador, Bhavitha Mandava, the runway show took place in Biarritz, France and took inspiration from the city’s free spirit and beachside way of living.
“Far from the Paris salon, Chanel found in Biarritz different ways of being and seeing, of movement and freedom. She made them her fashion pedestal. It is a place that offers the perfect balance between function and fiction. Among artists, workers, nobility, sailors and the natural world, everyone and everything shared the same stage, living together as a norm. All had a role to play,” shared Blazy in this season’s show notes.
Titled “SOUS LE SALON LA PLAGE,” the show location was a nod to Gabrielle Chanel’s couture house and first collections, which started in Biarritz. Blending inspirations like French workwear, Chanel’s first black dress and “the fiction of the mermaid,” the result was a sun and sea-inspired collection drenched in heritage and re-packaged into a more playful version.
Bright contrasting colors, playful Basque stripes and beachy accessories were worn alongside chic tailored skirts and dresses, classic silhouettes and Chanel’s signature tweed. Rooted in movement and freedom, the collection towed the line between Art Deco dressing and poolside styling, reimagining beach glam through the welcome lens of Blazy.
