Inside Sofia Coppola and Marc Jacobs' Decades-Long Creative Friendship
The new ‘MARC BY SOFIA’ book explores the designer’s career through the eyes of one of his closest collaborators and friends.
A24 and publisher MACK officially dropped MARC BY SOFIA, the new book from Sofia Coppola that offers an intimate look into the world of Marc Jacobs. Created as a companion to Coppola’s documentary Marc by Sofia, the 200-page publication traces the designer’s journey through fashion while spotlighting the decades-long friendship connecting the two creative forces.
The book follows Jacobs from his early days at Parsons School of Design to the industry-defining moments that shaped his career, including his controversial grunge-era collection at Perry Ellis, his influential tenure at Louis Vuitton and the rise of his namesake label. Through Coppola’s lens, readers gain a personal perspective on the designer’s creative evolution and cultural impact.
One of the publication’s standout features is its behind-the-scenes look at the making of Jacobs’ 2024 “paper doll”-inspired runway show. Packed with candid conversations between Coppola and Jacobs, never-before-seen photographs and original studio sketches, the book captures the fast-paced reality of bringing a collection to life while highlighting the close relationship at the heart of the project.
Designed with a scrapbook-inspired aesthetic, MARC BY SOFIA reflects Jacobs’ signature approach to visual storytelling and cultural references. The title is now available through MACK’s website and select bookstores worldwide.
