Sandy Liang's Dreamy Fashion Universe Is Getting Its Own Book
‘Dressing Up: Sandy Liang’ offers an intimate look inside the designer’s creative archive.
Sandy Liang is giving us a closer look at the world behind her signature bows, ballet flats and Peter Pan collars with Dressing Up: Sandy Liang, a new monograph with publisher Rizzoli.
More than a decade into her namesake label, the New York designer has built a distinctly girlish universe that blends downtown cool with nostalgia, youth culture and the things she remembers from growing up. Now, that world is being brought together in one very personal scrapbook.
Rather than functioning as a traditional fashion retrospective, Dressing Up delves into Liang’s creative process through a collection of personal ephemera, including previously unpublished film and iPhone photographs. The archive captures everything from runway moments and cherished references to Liang’s evolving approach to uniform dressing.
For the designer, documenting her life has always been closely connected to her work. “Holding memories through photos has always felt as precious as keeping a childhood memento,” said Liang. “Sharing my life through my work feels intuitive for me, one does not feel complete without the other,” she added, describing the book as a decade of the brand seen through her own lens.
The result is part fashion archive, part personal scrapbook and part guide to building a visual universe of your own, essentially, Sandy Liang’s world, bound between two covers. Head to the Rizzoli website to get your hands on a copy.
