Is Kim Jones Going to Versace?
Here are all the signs.
It’s been difficult to keep up with the rapidly changing fashion industry. From Phoebe Philo leaving Céline with Hedi Slimane as her successor, to Christopher Bailey exiting Burberry after 17 years – it is hard to keep track of all the changes. With Kim Jones announcing that his Fall/Winter 2018 collection would be his last for Louis Vuitton, many have since began speculating what could be next for the fashion designer.
With Burberry looking for someone to replace Christopher Bailey, the British label may have seemed like an obvious choice for the London-born designer, but recently it seems as if all the signs are pointing somewhere else. During his recent show, Kim Jones was joined by iconic supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss for his last walk down the runway, which felt very familiar to the late Gianni Versace. The founder of the eponymous label Versace used to refer to the model-duo as his “Golden Girls,” and they’ve played a key part in defining the Italian brand, walking the runway with Gianni himself as well as his successor Donatella Versace. Whether this was a coincidence or a planned out move, we can’t be sure, but the similarities are striking.
Could this be a clue as to Kim Jones’ next move? There is yet no official information surrounding the designer, so only time will tell. If you’re already missing Jones’ Louis Vuitton days, check out our editorial featuring the brand’s Aftergame sock sneaker.
